After the mayhem of preseason and losing to Rowan University in our last preseason game 4-2, the Fury were back to their old ways in winning a Away and Home derby series against local rivals the Philadelphia Atoms. In the first game the Atoms were the first to draw blood when they were awarded a penalty kick about 20 minutes into the game against the run of play. Soon after, the Atoms were unlucky when Chase Clement came up with another world class double reaction save that saw the Atoms denied their second goal. That was to be all the action the Fury keeper would see as the Fury pressed on to score their first of four goals through a beautiful goal by Ryan Butter with a great assist from Oliver Calvo, who after winning the ball in a midfield challenge past two players before slipping the ball through to Ryan Butler to slide the ball past the the Atoms goalkeeper. The second goal was scored by left back Omar Guzman after a blinding run down the flank after some clever combination play with wide midfielder Myles Englis. Englis found Guzman inside the the 18 yard box, Guzman beat a defender and lashed the ball into the far corner of the goal out of the reach of the on coming goalkeeper. Going into the second half of the game the Fury pinned down their opponents in their own half of the field for most of the time which led to a quick combination between the Little General, Oliver Calvo, who slipped the ball though to Travis Blair who hit what we would call a screamer from around 25 yards out with so much power that although the Atoms keeper got to it, he wasn't able to prevent the ball from crossing the line due to the power that was unleashed. With only 10 minutes left in the game, the ever increasing pressure by the Fury produced the final goal of the game. It was a half volley that came out of an across the box scramble where the ball dropped for Myles Englis to volley the ball home and put a full stop on the game and keep up his amazing run of scoring in every game the Fury has played this season. The final score was 4-1 in favor of the Fury.
